MFD Endorses Kamala Harris (7/28/24)

We polled the MFD Slack community, and our members overwhelmingly voted yes to endorsing Vice President Harris! Since President Biden’s announcement last Sunday that he was withdrawing his candidacy and endorsing Vice President Harris, the Democratic Party has rallied proudly and loudly around her candidacy, and Harris received the support of more than enough delegates to secure the party nomination and raised over $200 million. With only 100 days until the General Election, our endorsement adds to the amazing momentum Harris has built in an extremely short amount of time. We are optimistic about the unity this turn of events has brought to the Democratic party and proud to mobilize the Markers For Democracy community around this momentous campaign.

We have never endorsed a candidate before but we are thrilled to join other organizations, including Indivisible and March For Our Lives, in endorsing Vice President Harris in this extraordinary moment. The enthusiasm for her candidacy is palpable -- from platform-breaking Zooms and record-breaking fundraising totals to unprecedented numbers of volunteers and newly registered voters. Many of us plan to be on what promises to be another ginormous Zoom on Monday night for a Women for Harris National Organizing Call. Our work on down-ballot campaigns continues but we are buoyed by the energy and joy at the top of the ticket.

Note: Because we have a new candidate for President with just over three months to go until the election, Markers has decided not to take an official break at the end of August as we have done in previous years. Check the upcoming newsletters for programming during those weeks, but our regular Zooms will continue as we have tens of thousands of postcards to write. For those who need to take a break, we'll see you in September for the home stretch.
