Postcard Writing with Markers For Democracy
We are so glad that you would like to start writing postcards! Recent research shows that postcards are a very effective method of mobilizing Democrats.
Our postcarding group is called Markers For Democracy, (MFD) and we write postcards to voters all around the country through numerous postcarding organizations, as well as directly with campaigns for candidates up and down the ballot.
Our newsletter is the best way to learn about how you can postcard with us on Zoom, where we talk politics and listen to speakers multiple times a week. Our newsletter also contains our current recommendations for the most high priority postcarding campaigns.
What will I need to get started?
You will need postcards, postcard stamps, and at least one pen or marker in blue or black ink that writes with a fine line and doesn’t smudge. If you would like more color, we like ultra fine point Sharpies in bright colors, perhaps several additional fine point ones for emphasis, and/or one or more highlighters. Make sure to have some Wite-Out handy too. Everyone makes mistakes!
Markers For Democracy has a private VistaPrint ProShop for our members, family, and friends, with the hope it will provide convenience and a great selection of postcards designed by Markers For Democracy members and friends, all at a good price. Markers For Democracy receives no proceeds from the shop – we are passing all discounts on to you!
There are also many places to order postcards on Etsy. Some of our favorites are CreativeDem, MaryLikesPostcards, Patchwork Democracy, PostcardsToVoters, REF Creatives, StephaniesVision, StoneMavenDesigns, & Vertical Printing.
You’ll need to get postcard stamps either at the Post Office or by ordering at this website: USPS store. Stamps are the single biggest expense in writing postcards, and we’d like to help. each other write as many postcards as we can. Please complete this confidential form if you find paying for stamps a financial hardship.
How do I get addresses?
Once you have all of your materials, you can begin to write postcards by requesting addresses and scripts. Markers For Democracy writes postcards with several organizations and also generates our own campaigns via Postcards For Democracy.
