Grassroots Keeping Every District in Play (6/16/24)

Michael Kripchak ran in the special election this week for the open seat in Ohio's 6th Congressional District, a very rural district with a +29 Republican advantage going into the race. While Kripchak lost 54% to 45% and was outspent almost $700K to $25K, he achieved amazing results by cutting the lead to 9 points. Read David Pepper's report from Ohio on this surprisingly close special election. We aren’t going to win every race, but that’s how we build. All the work we do means something and makes a difference. This election reminds us not to write off any district. These two candidates will face off again in November, and now the Republicans will have to spend money they weren’t planning to spend in a district they thought would be safe. This demonstrates the power of grassroots efforts and the impact of our work, showing that every bit of effort counts in the long run. We truly can save democracy one postcard, phone call, and door knock at a time. It is going to take time. Stick with us and bring a friend. We are thankful for the Markers For Democracy community and the commitment to the work we do, despite knowing we won't win every time.
