GUILTY! (6/2/24)

What a week! Trump is now a convicted felon, having been found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records, marking a significant moment for our justice system. Whether you choose to celebrate or simply breathe a sigh of relief, it's important to acknowledge this victory for the rule of law. As Melissa Walker, Head of Giving Circles at The States Project, always says, let's take a moment to guard our joy and appreciate that our legal system can hold even the most powerful accountable. This conviction is a testament to the strength of our democratic institutions, proving that in America, facts matter, and justice can prevail through fair trials and courageous jurors.

In a healthy democracy, such a conviction would end Trump's presidential aspirations. Yet, Trump defies norms; despite being twice impeached and now a convicted felon with additional cases pending, he remains the presumptive Republican nominee, even leading in some key states. As Trump continues his presidential run, we must focus our efforts strategically and keep doing the work. The only way to defeat him is through the ballot box, ensuring he cannot undermine our democracy. We must stay committed to strengthening our democratic foundations, flipping state legislatures, and mobilizing voters to the polls. That means writing lots of postcards, getting on a bus to canvass, joining a phone or text bank, and encouraging your friends, family, and neighbors to turn their rage and anxiety into action. We will need all hands on deck from now until November. Celebrate this moment of justice, but remember, our work continues. Together, we can safeguard our democracy and affirm that truth still matters in America.
