9 Days until Election Day! (10/30/22)

We do this work 365 days a year, but many other people are just waking up to the idea that there is an election happening. Every vote counts and there is still time for you to make a difference. Most importantly, please tune out the polls. In the wise words of Dan Pfeiffer, "If you are like me and are getting nauseous on the “Pollercoaster,” I have some advice: Get off. Not only is it okay to ignore the polls, it’s advisable. It’s time to stop torturing ourselves." Turn your anxiety into action.

We will be writing postcards until the post offices close on Tuesday (unless there are campaigns with addresses left for the states in which you live or which are adjacent to the states where you live, in which case we'll be writing for those campaigns until the post offices close on Wednesday). Then postcarding will halt until we have our first runoff or special election after the general election. There are lots of other ways to take action in the week ahead. Join us every morning for a daily check-in from 9:30 am – 10:30 am EDT on Zoom. We can share what we are doing for the day and help each other make a plan and sign up for the actions that speak to each of us. There will be many opportunities including text banking, phone banking, voter hotline support lines, GOTV events, and more. We can help you get involved as little or as much as you like.

Also, remember to keep checking our Slack channel titled #textbanking-phonebanking-canvassing to see up-to-the-minute activities you can join. If you are not a member of the MFD Slack workspace, request an invitation here. Also, we will have a breakout room option during our morning check-ins if you need help using Slack.

Some people have indicated that they can't find all of the available Slack channels. If you are already a member of our Slack workspace and want to browse all of the channels available to join, click the "more" option on the upper left of your screen and then choose "channel browser" to see the selection. All available channels will be listed.

Don't worry, we will be here after the election. We have built an incredible community that has learned the importance of year round activism. We did not stop after Biden was elected in 2020 and we are not stopping now. Many of us know we will be doing this work together for the rest of our lives and that's a good thing. Julie K. couldn't have described it better than when she posted these sentiments on Instagram:
Some (many) people think activism is a burdensome thing. I'm here to attest it's been a blessing.
I get to be in community every day with people near and far who doggedly continue to hope for a better future, and who turn that hope into action.
I have expanded what I thought I was capable of doing, and where I once said "but I can't do that", I now do, in that supportive community. I write postcards. I donate. I protest. I text bank, phone bank, and knock on doors. And if you are worried sick, and despairing, and angry, and yet thinking "but I can't do all that", I'm here to say "but you can do something." I'm also worried (terrified) about the future of this country. But I'm not leaving, and neither are those I dearly love. So it's just not an option to give in and give up. Give activism a try. What do you have to lose (except all we hold dear).
