We left everything on the field (11/10/24)
This has been a tough week, and many of us are moving through a range of emotions—grief, fear, anger, sadness, and more. These are difficult days, and we want you to know you’re not alone. Our community is here, sharing in the heartbreak and the uncertainty. While the outcomes were not what we worked so hard for, especially at the very top of the ticket, we can be proud of the determination we showed. We left everything on the field, and that effort—our effort—was a powerful display of what grassroots commitment can accomplish.
The organizing we did in swing states and swing districts mattered. The calls, postcards, and conversations reached voters and reminded them they were not alone in caring for our democracy. And as we move forward, state legislatures will be more essential than ever in protecting our rights, as will State Supreme Courts. That’s been our work all along, and this week has only underscored its importance. For example, Governor Newsom’s special session shows what a determined state government can do, and in New York, Prop 1 passed, setting the foundation to protect reproductive and other essential rights at the state level. And in North Carolina and Wisconsin, we saw the work of The States Project and two outstanding State Party Chairs (Anderson Clayton and Ben Wikler) pay off with the breaking of super majorities in their state legislatures.
If you need time to rest and recover, please take it. Give yourself space to feel all of this, and when you’re ready to jump back in, we’ll be here. We’ve been meeting together on Zoom since Wednesday morning and will continue to hold space for anyone who needs it. Our vibrant and determined community has been working on elections for the last six years, and we plan to be here through all the elections still to come in 2025 and beyond. We’ll keep organizing, hearing from candidates, learning from experts, and creating a warm, welcoming place for activists committed to positive change.
Please reach out if you need support, and know that we are still marching forward, holding space for one another. Let’s take the time we need, but when we’re ready, let’s keep showing up—together.
