Sparks of Light (10/28/25)

These past weeks have been hard on our country, and it’s easy to feel weighed down by the headlines. But even in the roughest moments, there are sparks of light. Freedom of speech is still alive; if you haven’t seen Jimmy Kimmel’s stirring defense of it, we hope you’ll take a moment to watch. And thanks to everyone who canceled (or threatened to cancel) their Disney+ accounts or wrote to Bob Iger.  As Robert Hubbell wrote:  “Disney caved to pressure from the American people and allowed Jimmy Kimmel to return to his late-night comedy show. Let’s be clear: Kimmel’s return is a victory for the resistance in its defense of the Constitution. The victory teaches us a powerful lesson that we must internalize and replicate at every opportunity: Together, there is nothing we cannot do.”

And this week brought more good news: Adelita Grijalva won her special election for a House seat in Arizona. Her victory narrows the Republican majority, strengthens Democrats’ hand in key votes, and makes history as the first Latina elected from Arizona. Her signature will be the tipping point to force a floor vote on the Epstein Files. We were proud to host and support Adelita early, and we celebrate alongside her.

We continue to be inspired by the candidates and activists who visit our Zooms three mornings a week. On Friday, we hosted four speakers over three hours, and the feedback from our members and guests was identical: You inspire us.

We are grateful for all of you, this community that keeps showing up to write postcards, to make our voices heard, and to stand together. You are proof that even in difficult times, we can carry each other forward.
