National Day of Nonviolent Action (7/3/25)

As we gather this week to celebrate the Fourth of July, a day rooted in the promise of inalienable rights and self-governance, it’s worth remembering that our democracy is not self-sustaining. It depends on each of us showing up to protect and advance the very freedoms we celebrate.

That’s why we’re saving the date: Thursday, July 17th, to join a national day of nonviolent action (sponsored by Indivisible and many other organizations) in honor of Congressman John Lewis, who passed away on that date in 2020. John Lewis famously encouraged us to make "good trouble, necessary trouble" in the name of justice and equal rights. On July 17, we rise in his spirit to defend our civil and human rights from ongoing attacks and to remind America that the power lies with the people.

The day’s actions, rallies, marches, teach-ins, press conferences, and vigils are being organized across the country under the banner Good Trouble Lives On. This is our moment to channel moral clarity into collective action, peacefully rising against fascism, against kings, and for the enduring promise of democracy.

If you’re in NYC, we’re planning to show up together. Markers For Democracy will be joining forces with Downtown Nasty Women Social Group and Team Min, and we’d love for you to be part of it. Sign up here to stay in the loop.

Wherever you are, we encourage you to take part in this day of action. Put your zip code in this link to find out what is happening in your area. Whether you're marching in the streets, amplifying the message online, or supporting the movement in your own way please plan to take part.

Because freedom isn’t just something we celebrate.
It’s something we defend together.
