We Are the Firewall!!!
Every day, it feels like another pillar of our democracy, our society, and our way of life is under attack. As Barb McQuade tweeted:
“I am no conspiracy theorist, but it really feels like they are trying to destroy our country from within. Health care, public schools, universities, research, law firms, federal workers, the environment are all getting the axe. What was it again that made America great?”
She’s right. This is the moment we are living through.
Trump, Musk, DOGE, and their allies are actively undermining democracy not just in words but through the calculated destruction of the institutions that uphold it.
They are firing tens of thousands of civil servants, devastating science research, and gutting government agencies, ensuring that expertise and accountability are replaced by chaos and corruption.
Legal residents are disappearing without due process, an authoritarian tactic meant to instill fear and normalize lawlessness.
The institutions of civil society – law firms, museums, universities – are being targeted, and unfortunately, some are capitulating.
Freedom of speech is under siege not from protestors or activists but from billionaire bullies weaponizing their platforms to silence critics, amplify hate, and crush movements for justice.
The right-wing agenda is gutting public education, science, and healthcare, stripping away fundamental rights, and punishing those who dare to resist.
Authoritarianism isn’t creeping; it’s sprinting. And it will not stop unless we stop it.
This is why we take to the streets.
On April 5th, we rise together. More than 950 events are already planned across the country for the Hands Off! mobilization because the attacks on our freedoms, our bodies, our votes, and our communities demand a response.
