8:00 pm: Debunking the Five Big Myths of Women's Fight for the Vote

Rachel Tiven is a professional civil rights lawyer and amateur historian who writes the social media column @DailySuffragist. She’ll debunk the five big myths of women’s fight for the vote.

9:00 pm: The Ongoing Fight Against Voter Suppression

Kristen Clarke is president and executive director of the National Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (Lawyers’ Committee). In that capacity she leads one of the country’s most important national civil rights organizations in the pursuit of equal justice for all. Ms. Clarke's work has focused on strengthening our democracy by combating discrimination faced by African Americans and other marginalized communities. Ms. Clarke will address the challenges to full and fair implementation of the 19th amendment and the work that the Lawyers' Committee took up in the 1960s to ensure that the right to vote was available to every citizen of the United States. She will also address ongoing governmental efforts to suppress the right to vote, educate us on the Committee’s efforts to combat voter suppression in the courts, and what we can do as activists.

9:40 pm: Music and the Movement

The Resistance Revival Chorus is a collective of more than 60 women and non-binary singers, who join together to sing protest songs in tribute to the historical importance of music in the protest movement. RRC breathes joy and song into the resistance, aiming to uplift and center women’s voices.Their album, THIS JOY, will be out this fall! 10:05 pm: First Person: Angeline Butler

Angeline Butler is a founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Performing Artist, Adjunct Professor of Africana Studies at John Jay College; Coordinator of The Nashville Sit-ins and 1961 Freedom Rides, and an original organizer of the 1963 March on Washington. Angeline's activism has never stopped, and she encourages event participants to consider making donations to the Gandhi-King Season for Nonviolence and/or DRUM (Desis Rising Up and Moving).

  • Zak Malamed, co-founder of The Next 50, which is working to make politics more accessible to young people by teaching them strategic political giving and investing in young candidates.

  • Manny Yekutiel, founder of Manny's in the Mission District, San Francisco, a people powered and community focused meeting and learning place in the heart of San Francisco that combines a restaurant, political bookshop, and civic events space.

  • Miti Sathe and Will Levitt, co-founders of Square One Politics, a non-profit that recruits and discovers young, diverse, progressive Congressional candidates and provides high-impact, hands-on support in order to win.

Join us for an informative and interactive trivia game with questions on suffragist history, women in politics, and voting. There will be three separate rounds with a winner and a prize for each round. Correct answers AND speed count! You will need to have your phone handy to play the game (we will be using Kahoot! to gather your answers; you will watch the game on Zoom and input your answers on your phone). If you don’t have two devices available, it will still be fun to watch.

#iVoted Concerts is organizing the largest single night concert in history, taking place this November 3rd. Over 275 artists have committed to performing for their fans in exchange for a selfie of those fans outside of their polling place or with their blank mail-in ballot. Their aim is to increase voter turnout in the 2020 election through the power of music and community.

2:30 am: Julie Hermelin, Founder of Wake Up & Vote

Julie Hermelin is a social impact producer working at the intersection of entertainment, activism, and politics. She is the founder of Wake Up & Vote, a creative consortium of over 300 people including directors, producers, writers, songwriters, music clearance people, and animators who are volunteering their time to create political commercials for candidates and progressive issues that are broadcast via social media. The ads are then connected to political organizations that fund the advertising for their distribution.

Liuba Grechen Shirley is the founder and CEO of Vote Mama, the nation's first organization dedicated to achieving gender equity by breaking down barriers for working mothers to run for elected office, winning universal childcare for all Americans, and expanding the use of campaign funds for childcare for all candidates running for office. While running for Congress in 2018, Liuba became the first woman to receive federal approval to use campaign funds for childcare, creating a precedent for all other federal candidates and removing a major financial barrier to running for office for working parents.
