Special Elections & Cabinet Nominees (12/8/24)
As we look at the unfolding chaos of nominees for cabinet positions and prepare for what lies ahead, we find ourselves in a moment of pause—an uncertain yet critical space. While 2025 looms just over the horizon, we’re still figuring out how best to position ourselves and what actions will be most impactful in the year to come. One of our favorite Substackers, Robert Hubbell, wrote about this moment in his Saturday newsletter. It’s a time for thoughtful listening, learning, and strategizing. But one thing is certain: we’re not going anywhere.
Already, two special elections in Virginia on January 7 will kick off the new year, and we’re diving right in. The two Democratic candidates in these races will join us on December 10 on Zoom to discuss their campaigns and how we can help. Meanwhile, postcarding continues to be a cornerstone of our efforts and we will be writing for these candidates shortly. If you’re new to postcarding or need a refresher, sign up below for our monthly Postcarding Bootcamp next Wednesday at 8 PM ET.
Our fight against censorship and extremist agendas in education is far from over. On December 17, we’ll host EveryLibrary.org to discuss their work supporting libraries and combating book bans. And with the media’s role in shaping public perception more critical than ever, the Media and Democracy Project will join us on December 9 to explore how we can rethink our media consumption and influence change.
As we prepare for these upcoming events, we also recognize the importance of rest and reflection. From December 24 through January 3, we’ll take a short break from Zooms to recharge, reconnect with loved ones, and maybe dive into a good book. But we’ll be back on January 6, ready to pick up where we left off and tackle 2025 together.
Here’s to staying grounded, engaged, and hopeful—together. Let’s make the most of this moment of transition and position ourselves for the work ahead.
