Come for the activism. Stay for the people. (1/28/24)

Thank you to everyone who joined our 5th Anniversary Zoom party on Wednesday evening, and contributed to our word cloud about what keeps you coming back to Markers For Democracy.

We had a wonderful Zoom celebration on Wednesday, as we shared memories, laughs, and a few tears. Most of all, it was a reminder of our collective activism as we joined hands to save our democracy. This community has lifted us up in dark times and celebrated some extraordinary victories over the past 5 years, and we are grateful for all of you. If you would like to watch the 5-minute photo montage shown at the party, click here, or to see the amazing Memento video tribute, click here.

As Jason Berlin of Field Team 6 recently said, "You come for the activism and stay for the people." And that is true for all of us. It's a good thing too because we have a lot of work ahead of us, and being a part of this community keeps us going. We are glad you're on this journey with us. We need to be doing Everything Everywhere All At Once, as we focus this week on New York, California, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

We still have all hands on deck postcarding, phone banking, and canvassing for Tom Suozzi in the February 13th NY-O3 Special Election. We must help Tom win to gain the seat in Congress and to give us momentum to take back the House in November. Our Sundays For Suozzi series will conclude next weekend, but there are lots of opportunities to help get out the vote.

We are also writing postcards for four candidates running in critical school board races in California. We know that postcarding for down-ballot under-resourced races can have an outsized impact. We continue our fight to knock out Moms For Liberty school board takeovers and simultaneously bring out voters in important California swing districts. We look forward to a visit from several of these school board candidates on our Tuesday morning Zoom. Come show them some love, and grab addresses below if you’d like to be writing postcards for those races during their visit.

We continue our work to flip state legislatures, which have an outsize impact on voters' daily lives. We are still in the match period for our 2024 MFD Giving Circle in support of AZ and PA, so it’s a great time to double your impact by joining. To learn more about our giving circle, please read our FAQ.

Lastly, we’re excited to welcome back Congressman Andy Kim, now running for Senate in New Jersey.  Many of us have seen the indelible images of Congressman Kim cleaning up the desecrated halls of Congress after January 6th, and we look forward to hearing his plans to win his race in New Jersey. Invite your friends!

As Robert Hubbell likes to say, we have every reason to be optimistic but we can’t be complacent, so let’s get to work!
